When we use of the word Platforms in the technical community, we think of hardware in all of its varieties. There are computers in both the PC and Apple variety, LANs, switches, routers in both connected and wireless variety, hubs, UPSs, etc. We think of operating systems software in the Microsoft varieties, the UNIX varieties, or Linux in all its varieties. We think of general applications such as email systems, SQL database systems, WEB site hosting systems, etc. and we think in specific applications such as financial systems, sales management systems, medical systems for keeping x-rays and patient records, etc. The list goes on and on. Most of these platforms are outside the core competence our clients require to operate their businesses and serve their customers.
Connected is a word that causes us to think about how things are more capable when they are joined and not isolated. "Two heads are better than one" is a phrase heard early in our development. "Helping others", "working together", and so many other phrases focus on how important relations and connections are to all of us. Communications, unity, and collaboration are known to make us stronger and more capable. Networking has made our computing systems more powerful. Think what we would lose if networking technology was degraded by 20 years. There have even been companies that used the motto that "the network is the computer". Connectedness is significant when it comes to using technology, people and process in American business today.
This is the long way to say that Connected Platform means "synergy through technology, people and processes".
