Richards founded Connected Platforms through a spin-out of Cyclone Computer Systems from Portland-based software development and IT consulting firm, CorSource, where he was the CEO. Before that, he was senior vice-president of Operations for Mentor Graphics. Before joining Mentor, he founded and subsequently sold a successful company, CADTEC, which developed software for architecture, construction, and engineering. Previously, Richards was the vice-president of Engineering and then the COO of Sequent Computer Systems. He joined Sequent after many years at HP, where he managed the 1,400-employee Spectrum Program, which produced HP's first 32-bit RISC computer. Before that, Richards directed a research center in HP Laboratories and developed the basic patents for HPs family of inkjet printers. Previously, Richards spent 18 years at IBM managing hardware and software development projects. He holds an M.S.E.E. from Stanford University.
